Ganga Dussehra-

Today is Ganga Dussehra is a Hindu festival that celebrates the descent of the Ganges River from heaven to earth. It typically occurs in May-June.

The Ganga is the biggest and the most holy river in India. People respect as Mother Ganga. The Ganga Dussehra is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, and it is believed that taking a dip in the holy river on this day can cleanse one's sins and bring salvation.

The festival also commemorates the efforts of King Bhagirath who is said to have brought the river from the heavens to earth to purify the ashes of his ancestors and grant them salvation.

Celebrations-

Holy Dip- Devotees take a holy dip in the Ganges River, especially in places like Gangotri Dham, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Varanasi, and Prayagraj.

Puja -

This day devotees special Puja (worship) and participate in Ganga Aarti are performed on the ghats bank of Ganga. These ceremonies involve the chanting of hymns, lighting of lamps, and offering of flowers.

The devotes fruits, flowers, and sweets items to the river and to deities associated with Ganga. The people donating food, clothes, and money to the needy.

Fairs and Cultural Programs- There are so many various cultural programs, fairs, and religious gatherings take place along the riverbanks, attracting pilgrims and tourists.
